05.19.2023 - Fayetteville, Arkansas
Northwestern Arkansas is home to the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. Really! Everywhere you go in and around Fayetteville, Arkansas it is Go Hogs heaven. The people are, to a man, woman, and child friendly, polite, cheerful, and… oh, yeah… “Go Hog” crazy.
In the northern suburb town of Bentonville, something quite remarkable happened back in the early 1960s that would change Arkansas and the world for a long time to come. Sam Walton opened a store.
Pretty much everywhere you turn around these parts you’ll see babies wearing Razorback shirts and stickers… and the effects of the Walton empire. Oh, sure, you’re going to see warehouses and distribution centers, but you will also see some of the most impressive art museums and concert halls you will see anywhere in the world.
Bill Muench and Todd Hobin took their traveling road show to the Walton Arts Center on a balmy Friday night. Their film, The Artist & the Astronaut proved once again to be a hit with everyone who sees it. The audience stayed late to discuss the film. So late, in fact, that the staff needed to ask them to take their conversations out into the street.
We’ll fill you in on much of the backstory, and of Bill and Todd’s excellent adventure in Arkansas and Oklahoma in an upcoming article. For now, enjoy some photos from the evening’s festivities and know that the team is on its way toward bringing their award-winning film to the public.
The Walton Art Center is immense, beautiful, and amazing in every way.
April Wallace wrote a wonderful article about the screening of The Artist & the Astronaut at the Walton Art Center for the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
